Stem cell / Organoid Research and Engineering Laboratory 줄기세포엔지니어링 연구실

The STORE lab is dedicated to pioneering the next frontier of biomedical research through the power of stem cells and organoids. Our work spans three core areas: developing next-generation organoids with enhanced physiological relevance, building sophisticated in vitro models to recapitulate embryonic development and disease, and applying cutting-edge genetic engineering strategies to stem cells and organoids. By bridging engineering innovation with fundamental biology, we aim to unlock new insights into human development and accelerate the discovery of therapeutic solutions for complex diseases.

Core Research Areas

Research 01

Development of Next-Generation Organoids

Organoids have emerged as powerful tools for modeling human biology, yet current systems still fall short of fully capturing the complexity of native tissues. At STORE Laboratory, we are developing next-generation organoids that more faithfully recapitulate the architecture and function of physiological human tissues. Our efforts focus on engineering organoids with cellular compositions and structural organization that closely mirror those of their in vivo counterparts, pushing the boundaries of what these miniature tissue models can achieve.

Research 02

In Vitro Modeling of Embryonic Development & Disease

Understanding how the human body forms and how diseases arise at their earliest stages remains one of the greatest challenges in biomedical science. At STORE Laboratory, we leverage organoid models to investigate the fundamental principles and molecular mechanisms underlying organ formation during human embryonic development. In parallel, we utilize these models to dissect how mutations drive the onset and progression of genetic diseases, with the ultimate goal of identifying novel therapeutic targets and accelerating drug discovery.

Research 03

Stem Cell & Organoid Engineering for Functional & Lineage Analysis

Precise manipulation of gene expression is essential for decoding the functional roles of specific genes in stem cell biology and organoid development. At STORE Laboratory, we develop genetically engineered stem cells and organoids tailored for a range of research applications — including fine-tuned control of target gene expression, generation of reporter cell lines for real-time visualization of cellular processes, and construction of lineage tracing systems to track cell fate and tissue dynamics. These powerful tools form the genetic backbone of our research, enabling mechanistic studies with unprecedented resolution.
